    Learning more about human trafficking
 Awareness and Education
In 2010 Christine Caine came to the church I was attending to share about human trafficking, specifically sex trafficking. I was surprised to find out that trafficking was taking place all over the world and that there are more slaves now than at any time in history. I spent the remainder of my senior year and the following years reading about human trafficking, watching various sermons, and listening to podcasts related to anti-trafficking efforts. I wrote a post about trafficking for my high school paper and prayed against trafficking for years, yet it was not until about a year ago I joined anti-trafficking efforts.

Advocacy
At The Summit Church I've had the opportunity to be a part of the Anti-Human Trafficking Ministry. It has been wonderful to walk beside others whose hearts break over this injustice. The AHT Ministry partners with other ministries and organizations in North Carolina and all over the world. The individuals in this ministry have shown me the importance of prayerfully considering the ways I can join anti-trafficking ministries. I prayed about the ways I could become involved advocacy. I've enjoyed serving alongside these advocates and educate local youth. Over time I've learned more about the ministries and organizations we partner with and have joined Transforming Hope Ministries. The past year has been such a thrilling and humbling journey!

Transforming Hope Ministries is based in central North Carolina and opened Emma's Home, a transition home for three female adolescent survivors by offering them hope through a holistic twelve month program, providing individual care for each resident. Emma's home opened in July of 2012 and has hired four wonderful staff members, taken in two residents, and is looking forward to the future.

A common misconception about trafficking is that it doesn't take place in the United States and that it only happens to youth without parents or guardians. Watch Ashley's Story made by Transforming Hope Ministries.
